The short answer: crop around the subject, not just the center

To make a video work in TikTok, Reels, or Shorts, the output needs to feel intentional on a phone screen. A 9:16 crop is the starting point, but the important part is keeping faces, hands, product details, and captions inside the safe area.

If the scene has two people far apart, or a wide desktop recording, a simple crop may not be enough.

Use the 9:16 crop preset first

• Open the crop video tool and load the source video.
• Choose the 9:16 preset as a starting point.
• Move the crop area so the subject stays in frame. Do not assume center crop is always right.
• Export a short test clip before processing the full video.

What to watch before exporting

Check the top and bottom areas first. Social apps often add profile names, captions, buttons, and progress bars over the video. If your original subtitles are too close to the edge, they may be covered after upload.

Also check movement. A person walking from left to right may leave the crop area halfway through the clip. When that happens, crop a shorter segment or use a wider layout with background padding.
