Is WebM smaller than MP4?
Not always. WebM can be smaller for web playback, but the result depends on duration, resolution, motion, and codec settings. For quick sharing, MP4 is often faster to export.

If you need an MP4 video to load inside a website, landing page, or lightweight browser demo, WebM is worth testing. In HappyConvert, choose the Convert tool, select WebM Video as the target container, and use VP8 with Vorbis for broad browser support.
I would not recommend WebM as the default for every clip. In our own testing, MP4 exports and audio extraction feel much lighter. Full MP4 to WebM conversion is a re-encode job, so it can take several minutes even for a small file on some laptops.
For email attachments, client previews, and chat apps, MP4 is still the safer format. WebM is useful on the web, but some desktop apps and mobile workflows still handle MP4 more predictably.
For large videos, the practical limit is your browser memory. A few hundred MB can be uncomfortable for WebM conversion because the browser has to hold the file, FFmpeg core, and output data in local memory.

The browser has to re-encode video frames with your local CPU and memory. That is heavier than copying an MP4 stream or extracting audio.
